Holding a grudge. Forgive and forget. To err is human, to forgive is divine. You’ve likely heard these sayings before. But forgiveness isn’t quite so easy to come by. What happens when you’ve hurt someone else? Or when you’re the one who has been hurt? Let’s peel back the onion on this complex topic and explore how it feels to let go… or not.
Prompt 1: Have you ever asked someone for forgiveness and not received it? Write about how that made you feel.
Prompt 2: Write about what you consider a “dealbreaker” - something that you could never forgive.
Prompt 3: Use the image above to write about forgiveness. What does this image mean to you when you think of forgiving others or yourself?
Exercise: William Blake said: “It is easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend.” Write an essay agreeing or disagreeing with this statement. Make sure to give examples from your life to back it up.
